High pressure lined composite tanks

A RANGE OF LIGHT, SAFE, & HIGH-RESISTANCE TANKS

The storage of pressurized gases on space launchers and satellites requires high-rated pressure tanks. Here at Astrium Space Transportation, from off the-shelf to full customs, we can deal with your major orders; we are well-known and experienced in the field.

Capitalising on know-how in filament wound composite structures, Astrium Space Transportation has developed a wide range of lightweight, lined composite tanks.

For high-pressure tanks, the optimum solution in terms of weight and strength is achieved with a thin-walled metal liner over-wrapped with fiber composite material. Cylindric spherical concepts make it possible to fit with customer's volumes requirements.

Astrium Space Transportation man-power and current resources are sized to manufacture and deliver up to 140 tanks per year. Proposals can include pressure regulators, pyrovalves, tubing - all products made by Astrium Space Transportation - heaters, and services such as pre-integrated and pre-proof tested equipment assembly.

Our tanks store Helium or Xenon fluids at pressures up to 400 bars, with fatigue performance exceeding 15 years. Our gas/weight ratio always outstrips our nearest competition.

Successful civilian launches utilising these pressure tanks were obtained on TV Sat 1, Cluster I & II, Artemis A & B, Rosetta, Ariane IV, V and ATV.

This type of tank is used in most European satellites and space launchers.

More than 75 satellites are in earth orbit equipped with Astrium Space Transportation tanks providing pressurised fluids to their propulsion systems. More than 100 other tanks have equipped Ariane space launchers.
