Reflectors

A telecommunication satellite's performance depends to a large extent on the quality of its antenna. Technical and economic performances are key factors for commercial satellite antenna reflectors. Their requirements of accuracy, stability in an extreme environment, stiffness and low mass with respect to their size represent a serious challenge. In contrast, the low cost and low risk needed for satellite programmes require simplicity of concept and a practical knowledge of the product.

At Astrium Space Transportation, we are proud to be a major producer of antenna composite structures. Our state-of-the-art workshops employ the most advanced technologies to produce both single-shell or dual-gridded antenna reflectors. To date, a total of 208 space reflectors have been produced by us, including 108 single-shell reflectors, and, since 1988, no fewer than 80 dual-gridded reflectors. Of these more than 120 have so far been launched and are all operating successfully in orbit to the customers’ satisfaction - a unique perfect record.
