Scanning DRIVE mechanism with integrated drag compensation
The Scanning Drive Mechanism consists of an upper stage that carries the instrument and a lower stage that provides the scan compensation and keeps the system drag free with respect to the spacecraft. Both drive systems are identical and driven by a brushless DC motor. An integrated slip-ring assembly provides power and signal lines for the instrument.
