Third E3000 satellite for Canada
The third consecutive Eurostar E3000 satellite built by Astrium for Canadian-based operator Telesat, Nimiq 4 was launched in September 2008 and entered service at the orbital location of 82° W.
Nimiq 4 delivers high definition television (HDTV), speciality television and foreign-language programming in North America. It features 32 active high-power transponders in Ku-band and eight in Ka-band. The multi-spot Ka-band payload provides coverage of the most densely populated regions of Canada. Nimiq 4 had a launch mass of 4,800kg and the spacecraft power is 12kW.
