Astrium built, as prime contractor, three fourth-generation geostationary communications satellites for the Arabsat organisation. All three satellites are based on the Eurostar E2000+ platform and equipped with a payload supplied by Alcatel Alenia Space. Astrium was also under contract to design, integrate, validate, install and deploy the satellite control centres at Dirab (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) and Tunis (Tunisia).
Arabsat-4B/Badr-4 was launched in November 2006. It provides fixed satellite communications services in C- and Ku-bands from the 26° E orbital position. The Badr-4-payload consists of 28 active channels in Ku-band (16 in BSS and 12 in FSS).
Arabsat-4AR/Badr-6 was built to replace the original Arabsat-4A satellite lost at launch, and was successfully orbited in July 2008. The Badr-6 payload consists of 24 active channels in C-band and 20 active channels in Ku-band (16 at EOL).
