Flight 189: Ariane 5 – Satellite: TERRESTAR-1

EADS Astrium

June 30, 2009

Flight 189 is the 45th Ariane 5 launch and the third in 2009. An ARIANE 5 ECA (Cryogenic Evolution type A), the most powerful version in the ARIANE 5 range, will be used for this flight.

Flight 189 is a commercial mission for the ARIANE 5 launcher. It is the first single-satellite launch mission for the ECA version of ARIANE 5.

Launcher 547, the 41st production phase ARIANE 5, is the nineteenth of the 30 PA contract launchers, for which ASTRIUM is production prime contractor. 547 is consequently the twentieth complete launcher to be delivered to Arianespace, integrated and checked out under ASTRIUM responsibility in the Launcher Integration Building (BIL).

In a single-launch configuration with long payload fairing (total height of 17 m), it is carrying the TERRESTAR-1 satellite, the heaviest commercial satellite ever launched.
