The new ASIC, SCOC3, integrates all the functions needed for satellite platform computer in a single component. It offers the computing power of the latest generation 32-bit SPARC processor (LEON 3) and all the communications interfaces and telemetry/remote control, reconfiguration interfaces and memory management functions requested by our customers. The extremely high level of integration considerably reduces the size, weight and cost of our new generation satellite On Board Computer and it represents significant headway towards standardising Astrium computers.
By developing space technology to monitor the effectiveness of strategies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, Astrium is helping to fight climate change.
By comparing archive imagery against new images it will now possible to track changes in the Congo Basin’s forest cover. Administrations, public institutions and NGOs working on sustainable forest governance in the region will be using the images and the accompanying value-added services to more effectively monitor land use – a key to the sustainable management of the forests in Central Africa. The data is also crucial for measuring the effectiveness of national strategies and defining plans of action as part of the REDD+ programme (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation).
